Andhra Pradesh votes today for Lok Sabha and its state assembly, where TDP, led by Chandrababu Naidu is looking to take back power from Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSRCP.

Andhra Pradesh votes for its 175-member Assembly today. The Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress swept to power, winning 151 seats in 2019. The YSRCP faces its toughest challenge and these five issues, including Polavaram and attacks on temples, could hurt its chances.

Three years into the reign of the YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has launched scathing criticism, alleging failures across the board under the leadership of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Anti-incumbency sentiment is reportedly at its peak, with indications suggesting a potential ousting of the YSRCP in the upcoming 2024 Vidhan Sabha elections.

Having secured a significant victory in 2019 with a Jagan wave, capturing 151 Assembly seats and 22 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats, the YSRCP now faces a formidable alliance comprising the TDP, BJP, and JanaSena Party led by Pawan Kalyan.

As the state gears up for electoral showdown, several pressing issues plague the Jagan government, potentially affecting its electoral prospects:

1. Polavaram Project Delay: The prolonged delay in the Polavaram project, a critical irrigation initiative, draws significant criticism. Originally estimated at Rs 16,000 crore, the project's costs have ballooned to over Rs 50,000 crore due to delays and cost overruns.

2. Capital City Development: The absence of progress on establishing a new capital city for Andhra Pradesh, a decade post-bifurcation, tests public patience. The unresolved status of Amaravati, coupled with Jagan's retreat on the three-capital plan, raises concerns.

3. Temple Attacks: Over 200 temple attacks during the YSRCP rule spark outrage and questions about the government's commitment to religious harmony and law enforcement.

4. Land Titling Act Controversy: The introduction of the AP Land Titling Act triggers apprehensions of land seizure among citizens, fueling accusations of 'land-grabbing' against the YSRCP.

5. Unfulfilled Job Promises: Despite pledges to create 20 lakh jobs, the YSRCP faces backlash over unmet employment targets, compounded by accusations of failing to attract investments.

With these pressing issues dominating public discourse, the June 4 election outcome will reveal the extent of their impact on the YSRCP's electoral fortunes. The party's ability to counter the formidable BJP-TDP-JSP alliance's offensive remains a critical factor in determining its political trajectory moving forward.
